Pots add beauty to your house plants

Everyone loves a touch of green in their home as it can bring life to a room. However, knowing how to display them for the best look is not always easy. I thought it would be fun to share my design tips on how to make the beauty of the greenhouse plant look its best in your home. If you are like me, I am sure you love to go to the garden center and buy a bunch of fresh house plants, but what happens when it comes to displaying them in the right pots, place, and making sure they survive.

Plants need space around them to grow, and they look much more attractive when they have that space. If you are placing them on a shelf, with a shelf above them, make sure the plant has freedom. They will naturally grow towards the light, so to keep the plant growing evenly and upward, turn the pot around now and again.

When choosing the perfect plant pot, you should consider these pointers. The container the plant is grown in should fit comfortably inside the plant pot, and nearly reach the top. When the plant is too small for the plant pot, you could put some stones at the bottom of the plant pot to raise the plant. To keep the plant pots clean, I take my plants out to water them and spay them, then when the plant has soaked up the water, place them back into the pot. You can dunk them into a bucket of water and leave them to drain to give them a good soaking.

  • From a safety point of view, if you have young children, it is best to keep them out of reach. For pet owners, many plants are toxic for pets if they were to eat them, so always check what house plants are safe for your furry friends before you buy them. Plants can be displayed in so many different ways, from simple plant pots on the ground to unusual pot holders hanging in a glass. Let's look at some different trendy ways to put green into your interior design.

One of my favorite plants is the cactus, as it looks cool in clay pots and is one of the easiest plants to maintain. They do need water but you can get away with forgetting to water them from time to time. They come in so many different forms and some have flowers. The other easy plant that is versatile is the succulent plant and displays well with the cactus.

Tips

1. Grow fresh herbs on your window sill to use in your cooking. They grow well with the natural light and add fragrance to the room.

2. The safety of your pets is a must! Always check what plants are not poisonous to your furry friends, when in doubt do not leave a plant where your pets could eat it

3. A large plant is a real statement in a home and needs to be potted in the right size pot. there should be plenty of space around to allow it to grow

4. Why not use a step stall to display your potted plants

5. Take cuttings from your plants and save yourself money growing your own plants.

All plants need love and care especially the flowering type. There are many varieties of flowering plants so are easier than others to grow and maintain. My advice is if you are not very good at looking after plants then ask your local florist which plants are the easiest and less likely to not die.

Tips

 1. The most important is that you have a room that has good natural sunlight and that you feel the soil if it is dry to know when they require watering. When the soil is dry a good soaking in a bucket is a good idea, and leave the plant to drain off excess water. Hopefully, this will revive a plant and bring it back to life.

2. Be careful not to overwater a plant and a sign of this is mold and yellow leaves that feel moist that drop off easily.

3. If you have dead flowers or leaves my advice is to nip off the flower heads and cut gently back any dead leaves.

4. Some plants like to be misted but always read the instructions as some plants for example Orchids and African violets need special care.

5. Repot a plant when you see that the plant is too big for the container, signs are the roots are wrapped around the plant pot and protruding. Most plants like to be repotted in the spring. Make sure the container has a drainage hole if not make a hole in the bottom.

I grow plants for many reasons, to please my eye or to please my soul, to challenge the elements or to challenge my patience, for novelty or for nostalgia, but mostly for the joy in seeing them grow.
